Gospel
Luke 9:43B-45
While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, “Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.” But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Sermon
My brothers and sisters in Christ, today's Gospel presents a striking contrast:
- The crowds are amazed at Jesus' miracles
- Jesus shares a startling prediction with His disciples
"The Son of Man is to be handed over to men."
The disciples' response reveals their limited understanding:
- They don't grasp the meaning
- They're afraid to ask
This passage challenges us:
1. To embrace the mystery of God's plan
2. To recognize the path of suffering
3. To trust in Jesus' divine purpose
Jesus' words foreshadow:
- His arrest
- His trial
- His crucifixion
The disciples' fear reflects our own:
- Fear of the unknown
- Fear of suffering
- Fear of loss
But Jesus' path shows us:
- Suffering leads to redemption
- Death leads to resurrection
- Sacrifice leads to salvation
As followers of Christ, we must:
- Trust in His divine plan
- Embrace the cross
- Follow Him on the unseen path
May we, like the disciples, overcome our fears and embrace the mystery of God's love.
May we walk the unseen path with Jesus, trusting in His divine purpose and embracing the power of the cross. Amen.
Prayer
Let us pray: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty, merciful, and loving God, we pray for trust in Your divine plan, even when the path ahead is uncertain.
Grant us courage to face the unknown, embracing the cross and following Jesus on the unseen path.
Guide us to recognize the mystery of Your love, revealed in Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection.
Help us overcome our fears and doubts, trusting in Your purpose and redemption.
We pray for:
- Trust in God's divine plan
- Courage to face uncertainty
- Guidance in embracing the cross
- Perseverance in faith
- Thanksgiving for Jesus' sacrifice
In Jesus' most holy name, Amen.
Prayer for Trust:
Lord, help me trust Your divine plan, even when I don't understand. Give me courage to face uncertainty and embrace the cross. May Your love and redemption be my guiding light.
Amen.
May God bless us with trust, courage, and perseverance as we walk the unseen path with Jesus.
Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
Rev. Fr. Jhimerson Maneclang,SCJ
